A Message From the 2024 General Chair

“76 Union Y-Sail,” was the play that Eli Manning and the Giants called in Super Bowl XLII which resulted in the now infamous helmet catch and eventually a victory over the undefeated Patriots. A seemingly impossible task the Giants cemented their legacy through meticulous planning and when it came down to it, improvisation. We all start off with a play call but oftentimes must improvise to achieve our goals. With 49 years of experience the all-volunteer board began the year with an initial game plan and quickly found that we had to do just that in order to succeed. Ultimately delivering a 50th anniversary with record attendance and financial sponsorship. This above all else shows the enthusiasm not only for the SCITC but the maritime industry in the Port of Charleston.

Reflecting on the 50th Anniversary of the SCITC and our mission in promoting growth of international trade between South Carolina and the nations of the world, throughout the conference we heard from industry leaders in every aspect of the maritime industry who shared their insight on what to expect in the coming months and years. From the ever-changing ocean freight market, industrial development, alternative fuels, and domestic transportation it is clear the industry is rapidly evolving to meet demands. With strategic investments being made, South Carolina is well-positioned to continue to see long term partnerships and volumes grow. We are excited for the outlook of the Palmetto State and look forward to seeing these goals come to fruition.
